Superheroes

In Reception, we have started the spring term with the topic of Superheroes!

Last week, the children all took part in a ‘Superhero Selection Process’, where they had to complete specific tasks to enable them to go to ‘Superhero school’.

At Superhero school, the children had to use their problem-solving skills to complete a variety of superhero challenges. These challenges included:

  • Dodging laser beams on the climbing frame.
  • Rescuing Power Rangers that were frozen in ice.
  • Transporting a tub of ‘toxic waste’ across the playground – without touching it or spilling it!
  • Negotiating their way along an obstacle course.
  • Creating a ‘Super Power Potion’ in the Potion Lab.

On Tuesday 31st January, children in Reception will be coming to school dressed up as Superheroes for our ‘Superhero Day’, where more challenges will await!

The wolf strikes again!

This week we have been learning all about the three little pigs in Nursery.

One night the Big Bad Wolf came to visit us and he made our classroom really messy, he ate our fruit, drank our milk, built a house in the construction area and blew it down! We have been trying to catch him by making wanted posters and setting traps around school.

Please let us know if you see the Big Bad Wolf.

The Three Little Pigs

Last week Nursery enjoyed the story of The Three Little Pigs.

We made houses outside from different materials.

We retold the story in small world.

We pretended to be the characters from the story, even acting as bricks, sticks and straw. When the wolf blew, we fell down.

Looking at our special CCTV photos, we found that a wolf had visited Nursery when we had gone home!

Be a dragon fly…not a stickler in the mud

In assembly Years 1-6 listened to a  story about Small Ugly Bug and  Big Ugly Bug. One grew into a beautiful dragonfly, the other remained at the bottom of the pond in the mud.

Year 5 and 6 felt the general themes of the story were ‘determination’, ‘change’, ‘perseverance’ and ‘challenge’.

This 2017 -don’t be a big ugly bug in the mud: be a dragonfly and soar high.
