On Friday 28th March, Year 3 visited Quarry Bank Mill, where they learned more about what life was like for Victorian children.
Our Year 2 children have enjoyed their trip(s) to Staircase House, Stockport, where they learned more about The Great Fire Of London. Here they are ‘re-creating’ the events of 2nd September 1666, from Samuel Pepys’ diary.
On Friday, we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day and Red Nose Day. Our children wore non-uniform and ‘rocked their socks’ – all donations will be split equally to support both charities. Thank you to our school community for your support.
On Thursday 20th March, Year 5LL gave us a tour of Brazil in their excellent class assembly. All the children enjoyed presenting their learning to parents and carers, speaking clearly and confidently; they also treated us to a song and dance!
Thank you to those who were able to support our children by attending the assembly and staying for a while in the classroom to see their children’s recent learning and take part in activities.
Well done Miss Livesey’s children!
On Monday 17th March, we held a special assembly for Mrs Whitehead, to celebrate her retirement and thank her for all her work at Grosvenor Road Primary. Mrs Whitehead has worked in our school as a teaching assistant for almost 31 years, mainly in Key Stage 1 and the Early Years.
All our children made her a special class card (22 of them!) and these were presented in the assembly, alongside a gift and flowers from all the staff.
As Mrs Whitehead leaves Grosvenor Road to have a well-earned rest, we wish her all the very best for a long, happy and healthy retirement. THANK YOU MRS WHITEHEAD!
On Thursday, we enjoyed an excellent assembly by all the children in Year 4DC. They showed off all their recent learning about The Romans – with lots of information, singing and even a rap!
Well done to all the children – you really impressed us with your excellent presentation, showing confidence and projecting your voices so clearly.
Thank you to all parents/family members who were able to join us for the assembly and in the classroom afterwards.
On Friday, we celebrated Word Book Day by dressing up and taking part in various book-themed activities throughout the day.
Our themes this year were: Bedtime Stories in Nursery and Reception; Julia Donaldson Books in Year 1 and Year 2; Word Aware in Year 3 and Year 4; Monsterology in Year 5 and Macbeth in Year 6.
This year, all our children also enjoyed taking part in storytelling workshops led by Claire Davies:
Well done to all the children in Miss Sawkins’ class who delivered a super assembly about The Romans on Thursday 6th March. They all spoke their lines confidently and entertained us with their songs.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who came into school to support our children and spend time in class.
We have all had great fun flipping pancakes and raising funds for our school! All our children were given the opportunity to see how many pancakes they could flip in two minutes (wooden pancakes). In some cases, this was over 100! Well done to all our children for having a go and for collecting sponsors.
If you have already completed your sponsor form, thank you! Please send sponsor monies into school as soon as possible / by Friday 14th March.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the adults in our school community who came into school to help during the two days – we couldn’t do this without you!
On Thursday 27th February, our two Year 5 Teams took part in the Co-op Academy Swinton Dragon’s Den Final alongside several other Swinton primary schools. Our presenting teams, together with the groups of supporters who came with us, had lots of fun watching all the teams and taking part in ‘dance offs’ and poster competitions throughout the morning with Fred The Red!
Although our teams did not win the overall prize, we are very proud of all the hard work they put into their presentations and the way they represented our school – they also received excellent feedback from ‘the dragons’. Well done to all our Year 5s!
