P.T.A. END OF YEAR DISCOS

Our children had a lovely time at all of our PTA End of Year Discos this week. We also drew out the names of the lucky winners in our Name The Bear Competition!

Thank you to all those who attended and to those who took part in the competition.

Our thanks also go to the Parent Members of the PTA who helped to organise the events and gave up their time to help at each one.

Y1 Trip to The Lowry

Y1 had a great time today at The Lowry. The children worked as artists, with an artist, to produce work in the style of Lowry. The concentration the children showed during their creations was amazing to see!

The children also had the opportunity to visit the Lowry gallery and see his original paintings. We spent time studying Lowry’s paintings and we made our own sketches based on his work.

World Book Day 2019

We all enjoyed dressing up on World Book day – our classes chose different themes / authors.

This week we have also written entries for our short story competition and drawn illustrations for next year’s KS2 Planners – winners to be announced soon!

Sponsored Pancake Flip

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, our School Council held a sponsored pancake flip in school. All children in Reception to Year 6 took part to see how many (wooden) pancakes they could flip in two minutes. All our children tried really hard and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The record number of flips went to Ammar in Year 6 with 153!!

Thank you to all our families who have very kindly sponsored their children – please send monies in to school as soon as possible. Also, a huge thank you to the parents who came into school to help over the two days, enabling us to hold this event. Here are some of our pancake flippers in action!

World Book Day Writing Competition

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we are running a writing competition.  The children have to use one of the pictures as a stimulus for their short story.

It would be great to get the whole family involved, so the children will be bringing home a planning sheet so they can get ideas ready for writing their story in class next week.

Year One Lowry Workshop

On Tuesday 12th February Michelle Leigh an artist who works closely with the Lowry art gallery visited year one and spent the day leading art workshops. The children listened carefully as Michelle told them all about Lowry and his famous pieces of artwork. The children improved their pencil drawing techniques through making a looking log each and explored simple perspective. Finally the children created a pen and wash art piece incorporating elements of Lowry’s paintings which are going to be entered into a competition at the art gallery. This was a fabulous way to end the history topic on L.S.Lowry and develop the children’s love of art.
