The Life Education Caravan

This week the children visited the Life Education Caravan at school. There they met Harold the giraffe.

The children in Nursery helped Harold to get ready for school, using the items in his wash bag and talked about the importance of washing, cleaning our teeth and brushing our hair.

The children in Reception spoke to Harold on the phone and told him what sort of things made them feel happy. Some of their ideas included ‘smiling’, ‘going to the park’, ‘playing with my friends’ and ‘eating ice-cream’. 🙂

Nursery Cake Sale

For World of work week this year in Early Years we decided to learn all about chefs and bakers. We were lucky enough to have a chef come in to bake with us. Thanks again Mr Ball!

The children enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, writing recipes, counting cakes and guessing how many we could bake. It was a very busy week! Nursery ended the week with a fantastic cake sale!

We would also like to thank all the parents and carers who supported us in coming to our cake sale on Thursday. The children absolutely loved preparing for it and the great turn out was fantastic!

Reception’s Red Nose Day Cake Sale

The children in Reception have been very busy this week making cakes and biscuits to sell on Red Nose Day. The children sent out invitations to their parents, inviting them to come into class on Friday for our cake sale. We also made posters and displayed these on our classroom doors. At home time today, we had lots of families and friends that joined us in class to buy cakes and helped us to raise money for Comic Relief. Thanks to the fantastic support, we are pleased to announce that the cake sale raised £109.50! Thank you so much to everyone that came along! 🙂

Whole School Total now confirmed –  £537.45

World Book Day 2019

We all enjoyed dressing up on World Book day – our classes chose different themes / authors.

This week we have also written entries for our short story competition and drawn illustrations for next year’s KS2 Planners – winners to be announced soon!

World Book Day Writing Competition

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we are running a writing competition.  The children have to use one of the pictures as a stimulus for their short story.

It would be great to get the whole family involved, so the children will be bringing home a planning sheet so they can get ideas ready for writing their story in class next week.

Road Safety in Reception

Today, we had a special visit from the Road Safety team. They talked to us about how to keep safe when we are walking near a road and when we are crossing a road. First of all, the children listened carefully to a road safety story about ‘Teddy’ and, afterwards, were able to answer lots of questions. 🙂 The children all took part in a road safety activity where they had to use the pelican crossing to cross the road safely.

The children have all received their own copy of the road safety story that we read in class, to share at home. 🙂

Chinese New Year in Nursery

Today we were joined in class by two of our nursery parents who came in to tell us all about how they celebrate Chinese New Year. They talked to the children about the traditional food that they eat and showed us some of the special clothes that they wear. They kindly brought in special red envelopes for the children, which are traditionally given out at Chinese New Year. The children were fascinated to see what their own names looked like when they were written using Chinese symbols. The children had a go at painting some Chinese symbols themselves. 🙂
