YEAR 5 DRAGON’S DEN SUCCESS!

This term, all our Year 5 children have taken part in a Dragon’s Den Project organised by Co-op Academy Swinton and the Manchester United Foundation. They were asked to create a new product and to present this to four judges.

After a nail-biting school competition judged by Mr Pridden and Mrs Peacock, two teams were put forward to represent our school at the Final, up against four other Swinton primary schools – seven teams in total.

On Thursday 29th February, both teams made their pitch to the four ‘dragons’ at the Final – they were excellent and judged to be in the top three overall. We are very pleased to report that our Bombastic Boots Team were the overall winners!

Well done to all our children – here are photographs from the finals at Co-op Academy Swinton, plus a montage video created by Manchester United Foundation –

SCHOOL COUNCIL VISIT TO SWINTON CENOTAPH

On Wednesday 15th November, our twelve School Council members visited the Swinton Cenotaph to lay our school poppy wreath on behalf of our children and staff.

This year, we also met with Mr Glen Croston, a member of Salford Veterans Association, who spoke to the children about the new Veterans Memorial Garden – this now includes 23 memorial benches, a memorial board and 12 silhouette military figures.

Lest we forget…

The Life Education Caravan

This week the children visited the Life Education Caravan at school. There they met Harold the giraffe.

The children in Nursery helped Harold to get ready for school, using the items in his wash bag and talked about the importance of washing, cleaning our teeth and brushing our hair.

The children in Reception spoke to Harold on the phone and told him what sort of things made them feel happy. Some of their ideas included ‘smiling’, ‘going to the park’, ‘playing with my friends’ and ‘eating ice-cream’. 🙂

School Council visit to Wentworth House Care Home

At Grosvenor Road Primary School, we are very keen to make links with people of all ages in our wider community. One way in which we are doing this is through a link with Wentworth House – a local residential care home for the elderly. On Thursday 13th June, members of our School Council visited the residents there to help them to celebrate their ‘Alzheimer’s UK Cupcake Day’. The children helped to judge the cupcakes which had been decorated by the residents, played games, chatted to the residents about our school, presented prizes and enjoyed refreshments. Our visit was very well received and we look forward to visiting again next month with our choir.
