School Council visit to Wentworth House Care Home

At Grosvenor Road Primary School, we are very keen to make links with people of all ages in our wider community. One way in which we are doing this is through a link with Wentworth House – a local residential care home for the elderly. On Thursday 13th June, members of our School Council visited the residents there to help them to celebrate their ‘Alzheimer’s UK Cupcake Day’. The children helped to judge the cupcakes which had been decorated by the residents, played games, chatted to the residents about our school, presented prizes and enjoyed refreshments. Our visit was very well received and we look forward to visiting again next month with our choir.

Mr Alzheimer’s is a storybook character, created by an Age UK Salford dementia awareness project, in order to start a conversation and campaign around dementia awareness for children.

This week, members of our School Council attended the launch event in Salford and our school will be taking part in the project over the next academic year using a Mr Alzheimer’s teddy, introduction post cards for family and friends, puzzles and games, a diary and a Mr Alzheimer’s Goes to Toyland story book.

Sponsored Pancake Flip

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, our School Council held a sponsored pancake flip in school. All children in Reception to Year 6 took part to see how many (wooden) pancakes they could flip in two minutes. All our children tried really hard and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The record number of flips went to Ammar in Year 6 with 153!!

Thank you to all our families who have very kindly sponsored their children – please send monies in to school as soon as possible. Also, a huge thank you to the parents who came into school to help over the two days, enabling us to hold this event. Here are some of our pancake flippers in action!
