Today we said goodbye to our Year 6 children who performed to Parents, families and friends in their final assembly.

In the annual Prize Giving Assembly we celebrated the achievements of children in Nursery to Year 5. Well done everyone.
Children’s University
We are very proud of our 29 Year 5 and Year 6 graduates this year! They have worked hard to achieve their bronze, silver and gold awards.
In addition to having high quality education in school, children must also be involved in learning in its broadest sense, beyond the classroom and formal curriculum, if they are to achieve their potential and become lifelong learners. The Children’s University aims to help children develop their extra-curricular interests and abilities and have their participation and achievements recognised and celebrated, thereby increasing their motivation, confidence, self-esteem and aspirations to succeed.
The Children’s University is an International critically-acclaimed charity which encourages children aged 5 to 14 years to try new experiences, develop new interests and acquire new skills through participation in innovative and creative Learning Activities outside of the school day. Learning Activities are designed to:
•raise aspiration, self-esteem & confidence
•encourage curiosity and a love of learning
•enhance motivation and build resilience
•introduce new life experience
•offer progression in learning and personal skills
Travelling by tuba
On Wednesday ‘Travelling by Tuba’ (Chris and Stewart) visited our school. Nursery, Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 started the day with a concert which took us on a musical journey around the world. We began in Egypt where we learnt about the ocarinas and how they came about. Then we went to Africa where Chris dressed up as a Zulu warrior and performed some African music on a kudu horn. After that we went back 2000 years to roman times learning about how the roman emperor addressed the soldiers with an instrument called a cornu. In Turkey their army used a schnib to address the army and a dumbelik. Some children played the instruments whilst the rest of us marched along to the army music. After all that excitement we journeyed to the far east where we saw the two and a half metre high Tibetan Bhudist Dung encrusted in jewels which was played to thank the Gods for their music. To finish Chris told us all about the Tuba and played us some music with Stewart accompanying on the piano. Some children were also asked to come and join the performance playing some instruments.
Following the assembly, Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in workshops where they learn rhythms and played these on different instruments eventually leading to a whole group performance. It was a great day. Look at all the photos.
