Miss Boardman’s Y2 Class Visit to the Staircase House

This week, our Year 2 Classes went on a trip to the Staircase House in Stockport. We learned that this house is 500 years old! It is similar to the houses that were burnt down in the Great Fire of London!

The children dressed up as King Charles II, Samuel Pepys, maids, soldiers and a Link Boy (a Link Boy carried a lantern and escorted wealthy people around the dark streets of London, to keep them safe).

Do you know what date the Great Fire of London took place? Do you know what time the fire started and the name of the person responsible? How long did the fire burn for? Where did all the people live after the Great Fire? Y2 know the answers to all these questions!

Please continue to scroll down to see photographs from both Year 2 trips.

Year 2 Trip To St Annes

Year 2 have been learning about seaside holidays past and present. We have looked at Victorian seasides in the UK and compared them to seasides now. We visited St Annes and saw the pier, walked along the promenade, looked at the band stand and the Victorian shelters. We spotted lots of changes over the past 100 years; what people used to wear for the beach and what they did at the beach.

We also visited the Lifeboat Centre. The children thoroughly enjoyed making sandcastles and eating ice cream on such a sunny day!

World Book Day 2019

We all enjoyed dressing up on World Book day – our classes chose different themes / authors.

This week we have also written entries for our short story competition and drawn illustrations for next year’s KS2 Planners – winners to be announced soon!

Sponsored Pancake Flip

To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, our School Council held a sponsored pancake flip in school. All children in Reception to Year 6 took part to see how many (wooden) pancakes they could flip in two minutes. All our children tried really hard and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The record number of flips went to Ammar in Year 6 with 153!!

Thank you to all our families who have very kindly sponsored their children – please send monies in to school as soon as possible. Also, a huge thank you to the parents who came into school to help over the two days, enabling us to hold this event. Here are some of our pancake flippers in action!

World Book Day Writing Competition

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we are running a writing competition.  The children have to use one of the pictures as a stimulus for their short story.

It would be great to get the whole family involved, so the children will be bringing home a planning sheet so they can get ideas ready for writing their story in class next week.

Year 2 visit to Eureka

On Wednesday the children in year two visited the science museum Eureka in Halifax. The children began their day in the Gross Lab listening to and taking part in a very interesting lecture on bodily waste! Following this they spent the day exploring light and sound in a variety of exciting ways in the various galleries.
